Kitten Diary
25 June 2011 Aimee gave birth to 5 kittens today. She started having them at 1.00pm, and by 5.00pm it was all over. She seemed to manage birth very well. She is now settled and feeding her kittens.  We have 3 usual kittens, and 2 sorrel kittens.

27 June 2011  Aimee is doing really well with the kittens, they're all putting on weight nicely, so both Aimee and the kittens know exactly what they're doing!

29 June 2011  One of the kittens somehow managed to pull himself over the edge of his nest today, and climb through the bars of the pen. Not bad for a kitten who cant walk or see!!  I've given them a new box, with much higher sides, so hoping that will keep them more contained.

02 July 2011 Woke up this morning to see the kitten's eyes are starting to open.  We've also heard a couple of the kittens purring which is lovely. It sounds like very fast ticking.  We have named the kittens... The usual boys are called  Barnaby and Miles, the usual girl is Sophia. The sorrel girl is called Harriet, and the sorrel boy is Rafferty.  Took 1 week old pictures today and have loaded them onto the kittens page.

05 July 2011
The kittens are doing really well; a couple have doubled their birth weight, and the rest aren't that far off.  Saw Barnaby and Rafferty both either cleaning their paws this morning, or attempting to suckle from them...not sure which, but it was very sweet.

09 July 2011  The kittens are two weeks old today - where has that time gone?! Took and loaded new pictures onto the website and facebook page today. The kittens are continuing to do really well, and seem to enjoy coming to see us and being held. Aimee, little protective mum that she is, isn't so sure about it yet, but I'm guessing she'll be fine with it soon.

12 July 2011 Well, I obviously have adventurous kittens as they are now climbing out of the deeper box I made them...I'm thinking of taking them out of the box altogether and leaving them to roam around in the pen.  They're also play fighting with each other  - great fun to watch! Oh, and their ears are more 'uppy' today. They've been folded since birth, and looks like they're unfurling :-) Little kittens change so fast!

16 July 2011  Today, we're moving the kittens' pen downstairs into the kitchen/breakfast room. Welcome to the real world kittens! This is where it all happens in the Stapleton household, so the kittens will get used to the everyday noise and comings and goings, aswell as our other cat, Sarah. This is all helping towards them being well socialised.  I'll also be taking the 3 week old pics today, and will try to get them up on the 'our aby kittens' page.

18 July 2011  We have started weaning the kittens, as they are very active, and they possibly need a little more than they are getting from mum, so we are now offering them kitten food. At the moment, they tend to walk in it more than eat it, but it is early days.  They arent fazed atall by the noisy kitchen...so thats good news.  Couple of pics below of kittens playing in their pen.
23 July 2011  The kittens are taking to their wet food well.  Particularly the boys. The girls initially stood back and watched the boys literally get stuck into the food. Now they're joining in.  They're all ' assuming the position ' in the litter tray, and until this afternoon, that's all that was happening. However, two of them have now used it, so I doubt it will be long before they're all having a go.  Have taken 4 week old pics, will be uploading them tomorrow :-)

26 July 2011  Kittens have all had their claws trimmed this week, and have been making themselves at home in the kitchen. It's so difficult to go anywhere without having 5 little kittens drawn to your legs like magnets... The kids are on school holidays now, so the kittens will have weeks of endless attention which they seem to love.  Have ordered a new cat tree for them. They're so adventurous and love climbing already, so think it will go down very well.
28 July 2011  Uploaded a short film to YouTube last night. Here you can see them eating, fighting each other, sitting by the fridge (it's nice and warm at the bottom) and chasing Aimee around for a feed, when all she wants to do is give herself a quick wash!!  She did feed them in the end, incase you were wondering!  Enjoy!

01 August 2011   Still haven't got around to the 5 week pics yet, so must get on top of things. Talking about getting on top, the kittens are climbing everywhere now. They're managing to get on top of the cat carrier, their cat igloo they sleep in, up the cat scratch post, and up our legs!  They're eating well, and behaving beautifully when their prospective owners have been to see them. They're so confident and sociable, it's lovely to see :-)

06 August 2011  All kittens are now reserved, so each one will have a lovely new home to go to in September.  The kittens are 6 weeks old today, and are now playing in the conservatory, and getting used to Sarah, our Siamese cat. They really want to play with her, but she's not entirely convinced at the moment.  A couple of the kittens are now eating kitten kibble aswell as the wet kitten food they are enjoying.  They are also perfecting their hunting skills with some mouse toys they were bought by Barnaby's new owner. Thanks, Nikki and family :-)

12 August 2011  This week, I've taken pictures of the kittens sleeping. Cant believe how much easier it was to get pictures this way :-)  They look so adorable sleeping, and love being in the conservatory where they can lie in the sun.  They are climbing up and playing on the cat tree aswell, and have long been able to get to the top of the cat scratch post. Little adventurers,  No wonder they need their sleep! Seven weeks tomorrow, where does the time go?

31 August 2011  Back from our family holiday today. We have had fabulous cat and house sitters staying, further socialising our little cats.  We are amazed how big the kittens have got and how much they have changed in the time we have been away. It took a while to work out who was who as they have changed facially, they are looking so much more grown up.

We unfortunately have a bit of an upset tummy outbreak, which has delayed the first set of vaccinations, but as soon as all the kittens are well again, we will be booking them in. Hopefully this won't delay the pick up date too much. Have taken some more up to date pictures and will load them on as soon as I can.

03 September 2011  Well, whatever upset the kittens tummies went round 4 out of 5 of them, but has completely cleared up now so I will be taking them in for their first jabs hopefully on Monday. Very conscious of the fact the new owners want their kittens as soon as they can, so will get their vaccinations started as soon as possible.  They're 10 weeks old today, and I'm planning on filming them again tomorrow, so keep an eye out for a new YouTube video :-)

07 September 2011   The kittens had their first set of vaccinations and health check on Monday. They were fab, and the vet was pleased with them all health-wise, and absolutely loved them.   The pick up date will now need to be 1st October 2011, 1 week later than initially expected. The kittens will be 14 weeks old at this point.

I've been filming them, and my Hubby has edited my footage and made it
into a YouTube video.  His mad music is meant to match the kittens mad behaviour...  By the way, the kittens really do move that fast.  The film hasn't been sped up!!

10 September 2011    New pictures uploaded, on the 'our aby kittens' page, plus a bonus one of the kittens all sleeping together below on a blanket bought round by one of the new owners.  The kittens love the blanket, Victoria, so I think it will be definately smell of his siblings when  you take it home with him :-)
23 September 2011   Sorry about the lack of updates.  Had a few problems getting the website loaded and working on my new laptop.  I've loaded some new pictures of the kittens.  I've had to take them when they were sleepy because its the only time they keep still long enough for me to take nice pictures of them!  Theres some yawny ones below...

I think it looks like they're sharing a funny joke!

The kittens are growing up and are ready for their new homes.  Their fur is becoming less fluffy and their coats are looking so beautiful now. They're booked in for their final vaccinations on Monday, and the first kitten leaves on the Friday, with all but Harriet going on Saturday.  We will miss them terribly, it will seem incredibly quiet without them all tearing around after each other.

26 September 2011  The kittens went to the vets and had their second set of jabs today, and I've trimmed their claws.  The vet commented on how confident  they all were, and how well behaved they were having their jabs.  They're such good little things, I know the new owners will be over the moon with them.

01 October 2011 Four of the five kittens have now gone to their new homes. Sad for us that they're no longer here,  but so happy that they have lovely homes to go to.  Its very quiet without them all charging around :-)
